The West Oakland Food Hub, spearheaded by Impact Oakland Now (ION), is more than just a facility — it’s a community-driven solution to food insecurity and economic opportunity in Oakland. Designed to support local food entrepreneurs, farmers, and residents, the Food Hub provides the resources, space, and connections needed to foster a thriving, equitable food ecosystem.
Supporting Local Food Entrepreneurs
At the heart of the Food Hub is its commercial kitchen and bakery stations, available for rent by food businesses of all sizes. This shared space allows entrepreneurs to scale their operations without the high costs of owning or leasing commercial facilities. By providing access to professional equipment and a supportive network, the Food Hub empowers small food businesses to grow, create jobs, and contribute to the local economy.
The kitchen will feed the community and employ its people.

Reducing Food Waste and Fighting Hunger
The Food Hub also serves as a distribution and storage hub, ensuring that surplus food from local farmers and producers reaches the families who need it most. During the pandemic, ION distributed thousands of food boxes weekly to communities disproportionately impacted by food scarcity. The Food Hub continues this mission, addressing food insecurity while promoting sustainable practices and reducing waste.
Fostering Community Education and Partnerships
Education is central to the Hub’s mission. From culinary workshops to nutrition education and food business training, the Hub equips residents with the skills and knowledge to build healthier lifestyles and sustainable livelihoods. By partnering with local organizations, schools, and faith communities, the Food Hub serves as a hub for learning, collaboration, and community empowerment.
A Space for Innovation and Collaboration
Beyond food preparation and distribution, the Hub provides space for community meetings, networking, and innovation. Local farmers, chefs, and social entrepreneurs can collaborate on projects, pilot new ideas, and strengthen the local food ecosystem. By connecting diverse stakeholders, the Hub fosters creativity, resilience, and opportunity in West Oakland.
